BSP chief Mayawati's statement on the Hathras gang-rape and the increasing number of crimes against women in Uttar Pradesh.
"After the Hathras incident, I hoped the UP govt will take action against people committing crimes against women. But a similar crime has been committed against a Dalit student in Balrampur. Under the BJP's UP govt, criminals, mafias and rapists are having a free run.

"Not a single day passes in UP without any crime against women. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath should resign if he can't ensure safety to women. He is unable to maintain law and order in the state. I urge the Centre to send him to his place - Gorakhnath Math," Mayawati said.

A 22-year-old woman, who was allegedly gang-raped in Balrampur died on Wednesday. Dev Ranjan, Superintendent of Police (SP), Balrampur, said that the victim's family alleged that two men raped her.

"We have received a complaint in which the family of a 22-year-old woman said that she used to work at the firm. On Wednesday, she did not return from the firm. Later, when she did return home on a rickshaw, she had a glucose drip inserted in her hand," Ranjan told ANI.

"She died on the way when the family was taking her to the hospital. They claimed that two men raped her. Both of them have been arrested," he said.
