Joe Biden urged patience tonight in Delaware as votes continue to be counted. "We knew this was going to go long. Keep the faith, we are winning," he told a crowd moments ago.

To the sound of blaring car horns from his audience of supporters, Joe Biden and his wife Jill take the stage at the outdoor venue in Wilmington, Delaware.

"Good evening. Your patience is commendable." he says, adding: "We feel good about where we are."

The Biden campaign has long said their easiest path to the nomination hinges on the "blue wall" -- Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania -- and that is still a belief that stands tonight.

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday prevailed in the hotly contested Rust Belt state of Ohio -- one he seized in 2016 and which is key to his efforts to win reelection over his Democratic challenger.
