Kanimozhi meets kin of men who died in police custody

Tamil Nadu: DMK MP Kanimozhi today met family of the man and his son, who were allegedly arrested for violating COVID-19 lockdown restrictions in Tuticorin on June 19 and died in police custody. She handed over Rs 25 lakh, a letter from DMK chief MK Stalin and assured complete support.

The deceased had kept their cell phone shop open on June 19 when policemen patrolling the area asked them to close the shop, leading to a verbal argument. Following that both the father and son were beaten up at the police station and then lodged in the sub-jail, say their family.


The son was taken to the Kovilpatti GH hospital, where he died and the next day the father also died in hospital. 

Local traders claiming that the two shopkeepers died due to police torture in custody and sat on a protest.
