One family's greed for power... HM on Emergency

Home Minister Amit Shah on the 45th anniversary of the imposition of Emergency rule on the 25th of June 1975. "On this day, 45 years ago one family's greed for power led to the imposition of the Emergency. Overnight the nation was turned into a prison. The press, courts, free speech... all were trampled over. Atrocities were committed on the poor and downtrodden."

The Emergency refers to a 21 month period from 1975 to 1977 when Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had a state of emergency declared across the country.
