The rescue efforts for the Air India Express flight which crashed at Kozhikode airport at 7.40 pm are being hampered by incessant rains.

The region has been lashed with heavy rains for three days now.

It might have also caused the tragedy as the plane crashed after skidding off the runway.

The plane overshot the runway and nose-dived 30-40 people into the valley at the end. The plane split in two and smashed into the airport's compound wall.

Both pilots were killed in the crash. The casualty figure has been pegged at 16 as of now.

Almost all passengers have been pulled out of the debris and have suffered injuries.

As per sources, 45 passengers are in critical condition.
