Modi speaks to Kerala CM after AI plane crash

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on phone after an Air India Express plane coming from Dubai overshot the runway at the Kozhikode airport on Friday. He was informed by the chief minister that a team of officials including Kozhikode and Malappuram district collectors and IG Ashok Yadav have arrived at the airport to participate in the rescue operation.

A pilot and two passengers were killed in the crash and at least 35 people have been reported injured and shifted to various hospitals.

"Deeply distressed to hear about the Air India Express tragedy at Kozhikode. Prayers are with the bereaved families and those injured. We are ascertaining further details," said External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar
