Heavy rain lashes Mumbai; offices shut, trains stopped

Mumbai woke up to heavy rain, with the city receiving more than 230 mm of rain int he last 10 hours.

The rain continued through the night which led to waterlogging.

The downpour has led to disruption of transport services in Mumbai.

The BEST bus services have been diverted on 56 routes in various parts of the city and its suburbs due to waterlogging, the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation said.

The local train service, considered lifeline of Mumbai, has also been affected. 

According to the BMC, trains on central, western and harbour lines have completely stopped.

The BMC has appealed to all offices and other establishments to remain shut today, except emergency services.

The weather department has sounded a red alert for two days (Tuesday and Wednesday) for extremely heavy rain in Mumbai.
