'Arrest of Kashmiri leaders not beyond 18 mnths'

Union minister Jitendra Singh has said the Centre won't keep Kashmiri politicians under house arrest for more than 18 months and also added that they are not under arrest, but are living as "house guests".

"Political leaders have been kept in VIP bungalows. We have even given them CDs of Hollywood movies. Gym facility has also been provided to them. They are not under house arrest. They are house guests," said Jitendra Singh.

He also added, "Political leaders in Jammu and Kashmir will not remain under house arrest for more than 18 months."

A bunch of Kashmiri politicians, including former chief ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti have been kept under house arrest since August 5 when the Home Minister Amit Shah moved to scrap Article 370 and bifurcate the state into two Union Territories.

It is close to two months now that the leaders have been locked in at separate locations without any mode of communication with the outside world.

Former J&K chief chief minister and National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah has been detained under the stringent Public Safety Act of Jammu and Kashmir.

Jitendra Singh also said, "PoK is ours and we are committed to restoring the boundaries of J&K. The Parliament has already passed a resolution on this in 1994."
