GST Council: Caffeinated drinks to get costlier

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman briefs the media following the 37th GST Council meeting. 

Here are the highlights:

>>  GST on caffeinated beverages has been increased from 18 to 28 percent plus 12 per cent cess additional cess, which takes the total tax rate to 40 per cent.

>> Plates and cups made of leaves, cut and polished semi precious stones and imports of specified defence goods to get cheaper after GST rate cuts.  

>> Rates on outdoor catering to be cut.

>> GST Council cuts tax on hotel room tariffs of Rs 1,000 to Rs 7,500/night to 12%; those above Rs 7,500 to 18%
