TN village gets bus service -- at last
September 03, 2019  14:24
For village M Meenakshipuram in Virudhunagar district, Tamil Nadu, Independence Day dawned last week, when the state government started a bus service to the village.

Till now, the only way residents could take a walk was after walking 4 km to the nearest village, M Reddiyapatti. The worst sufferers were students who had no way to access the neighbouring schools. Even relationships became strained as no one would come to a village that was so inaccessible, reports Anandavikatan.com.

After submitting representations to the administration for decades, the village got what it had prayed for: A bus connection.

Naturally, overjoyed villages marked the occasion by wild celebrations and bursting firecrackers.

The new bus service would reach the village at 7 am, so as to ferry students, and return around 4.30 pm, at the time schools shut, to bring them back.

Hopefully, the village would see more bus services in the days to come.
