Filmmaker Aparna Sen raises concern over the brutal murder of Hindu Samaj Party leader Kamlesh Tiwari.

She tweeted to say, "What is happening in our country? Kamlesh Tiwari killed in Lucknow! If the accused objected to his remarks in 2015 as confessed, why not protest in a democratic manner? This is reprehensible! If people are killed for making remarks, we are not living in a democracy!"

Aparna Sen was one of 50 celebrities against whom an FIR was lodged for writing an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi raising concern over the growing incidents of mob lynching, police said.

The case was lodged after an order was passed by Chief Judicial Magistrate Surya Kant Tiwari two months ago on a petition filed by local advocate Sudhir Kumar Ojha. The FIR was dropped later.

Hindu Samaj Party leader Kamlesh Tiwari was stabbed 15 times and shot once in his head, according to the postmortem report. Two deep cut marks were found on his neck and the stabbing was centred between jaws and chest. The wounds were inflicted within 10 centimetres of one another, the report said.

A bullet was found on the back of Tiwari's skull while the postmortem was being conducted.

On October 18, Tiwari was murdered in Naka area of Lucknow. He later succumbed to his injuries.

Earlier on Tuesday, two main accused in the murder case -- Ashfaq Hussain Jakirhussain Shaikh (34) and Moinuddin Khurshid Pathan (27) -- were arrested by Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) from the Gujarat-Rajasthan border.
