Congress' Sanjay Nirupam, who had cauthioned his party against any alliance with Shiv Sena said today, "People would be thinking I will be happy by today's developments, but I am actually very sad. Congress has been unnecessarily defamed in this and thinking of alliance with Shiv Sena was a mistake. I appeal to Soniaji to at first dissolve Congress Working Committee."

Nirupam, a former chief of the Congress Mumbai unit, has been a vocal opponent of any tie-up with Sena. He had yesterday tweeted that Congress president Sonia Gandhi shouldnt bow to any pressure.

"Years ago, Congress had committed mistake by joining hands with BSP [Bahujan Samaj Party] in Uttar Pradesh. It [Congress] hasnt been able to recover from that failure. We are committing the same mistake in Maharashtra, Nirupam said in a tweet.
