Safety priority, not internet: Shah on J-K in Parl

Home Minister Amit Shah in the Rajya Sabha answers a question on the situation in Jammu and Kashmir and internet restrictions. The question was asked by Congress MP Ghulam Nabi Azad.

-- The decision on resuming internet services can only be taken by the Jammu and Kashmir authorities. Safety of the country and people of Kashmir is of utmost priority.

-- There are activities by Pakistan too in Kashmir region, so keeping security in mind, whenever the local authority deems it fit, a decision will be taken on resuming internet services.

-- I can assure you that the situation in Kashmir is normal. There has been a significant dip in stone-pelting incidents:Since August 5, not a single person has died in police firing.

-- All newspapers are in circulation. All TV channels are running. All banks are operational. All govt offices & courts are functioning in the Valley.

-- Availability of medicines is adequate, there is no problem. Mobile medicine vans have also started. The administration has taken care of health services. Availability of petrol, diesel, kerosene, LPG and rice is adequate. 22 lakh metric ton apples are expected to be produced. All landlines are open.

--I challenge Ghulam Nabi Azad sahab to counter these facts which I presented, why don't you object to these figures on record? I am willing to discuss this issue for even an hour.
