Pawar to meet Cong leaders at 5 pm

Addressing a press conference, NCP leader Nawab Malik said, "Today a NCP meeting was held. All 54 MLAs were present. It has been decided that looking at the uncertainty in the state, we'll empower Sharad Pawarji to take a decision on alternative govt. A committee will be formed for the same which will be led by Sharad Pawar.

"Sharad Pawar has spoken to Congress leaders and 3 Congress leaders are coming to Mumbai and they will meet Sharad Pawar at 5 pm," Malik.

Pawar will meet Mallikarjuna Kharge, Ahmed Patel and KC Venugopal at 5 pm.

The jury is still out on whether Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari did recommended President's Rule in Maharashtra.

The Raj Bhavan has denied sending any recommendation.

Reports also say that a Cabinet meeting called by the PM just before he emplaned for Brazil for the BRICS summit has approved President's Rule.

Koshyari has given time to the NCP till 8.30pm today to prove that it has the numbers after the Shiv Sena on Monday failed to get letters of support from the political rivals before the deadline set by the Governor who rejected its plea for three more days to do so.
