Actor-turned-politician Hema Malini on Friday won the Mathura Lok Sabha seat by a margin of 2,93,471 votes.

This is the second time the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate has retained her sway in the city of Hindi heartland.

Speaking to the media persons, the lawmaker said: "I knew I was going to win, but I did not fathom that I would win by this big margin.

"I would like to thank the people of Mathura and the nation."

On being asked about the loss of Congress in the states where they had a stronghold, she said: "It shows that they did not do any work."

Malini had contested against Narendra Singh of the Rashtriya Lok Dal and local industrialist Mahesh Pathak of Congress from Mathura.

In 2014, the 'Dream Girl' had won by over 3 lakh votes in the constituency.   -- ANI
