Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath who faces a notice by the Election Commission for his Sambhal speech last month defended his Babar ka aulad remark.

The chief minister said his speech cannot be a violation of the model code of conduct because he was only recalling a conversation with someone.

Do we go to the dais to sing bhajan (devotional songs). We go there to defeat our adversary and to corner them, the chief minister said.

The 46-year-old chief minister, who is seen as a prominent Hindutva face of his party, was banned from campaigning for 3 days for an earlier speech that was considered divisive by the Election Commission.

Yogi Adityanaths deadline to respond to the fresh EC notice ends Friday evening.

In his interview that was released earlier in the day, Yogi Adityanath made it clear that he did not see anything wrong in what had been said. The chief minister also underlined that it was for political parties to highlight the oppositions weakness in front of people.
