IN a big loss for the Congress in Maharashtra, the party's Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Assembly Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil resigned from his post on Tuesday on moral grounds. This comes days after his son, Sujay Vikhe Patil, quit the Congress and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil's resignation is with Congress president Rahul Gandhi for consideration.

Sujay Vikhe Patil joined the BJP in the presence of Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and state party chief Raosaheb Danve at an event held in south Mumbai last week.

The move follows the Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party's refusal to leave aside the Ahmedanagar Lok Sabha seat for the neuro suregon son of the Leader of the Opposition in the Maharashtra assembly.
