JUST IN: China blocks India's bid to designate Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar as a global terrorist in the United Nations Security Council 1267 list.

As deadline to list the JeM chief in the UNSC global terrorist list neared, several countries joined India as co-sponsors endorsing his inclusion in this list.

However, China, a veto wielding power, saved the JeM chief once again by putting the proposal on hold.

The proposal to designate Azhar under the 1267 Al Qaeda Sanctions Committee of the UN Security Council was moved by France, the United Kingdom and the United States on February 27, days after the Pulwama terror attack carried out by a suicide bomber belonging to JeM that led to a flare-up in tensions between India and Pakistan.

The Al Qaeda Sanctions Committee members have 10 working days to raise any objections to the proposal moved by France, the UK and the US.

The no-objection period deadline was to end at 3 pm local time (New York) Wednesday (12.30 am IST Thursday).  -- ANI/PTI
