Congress's Rahul Gandhi, who decided to step down from the position of the party chief after the abysmal performance in the Lok Sabha election, made it clear that he is sticking to his resolve and would not be involved in the process of the selection of the new party chief.

Underscoring that there has to be "accountability in the system", he said to NDTV, "I am not going to get involved in that process, otherwise it will complicate things and the party has to decide".

The Congress has refused to accept Gandhi's decision, and over the last weeks has insisted on maintaining the status quo.
