Update on Cyclone Vayu. In Maharashtra, a tree uprooted in Mumbai early morning today due to strong winds in the coastal areas ahead of landfall of Cyclone Vayu. A bike was crushed under the uprooted tree, but no casualties thankfully.

The Deputy Director General, India Meteorological Department, Mumbai, KS Hosalikar says, "A very severe cyclonic storm Vayu is now at 280 km south-southwest of Mumbai. Winds over North Maharashtra coast are very likely to be 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph today. It is expected to be a windy day today with potential threat from flying objects. Sea conditions are very likely to become rough to high along and off Maharashtra coast on 12 and 13 June. Sea beaches would require special attention. Warnings to fisherman have been issued. Gusty winds can cause tree falling incidences too."

CycloneVayu is expected to make a landfall in Gujarat tomorrow morning. Tourists visiting Dwarka, Somnath, Sasan, Kutch, have been advised to leave for safer places after the afternoon of 12 June.

Parts of Gujarat are bracing for impact from strengthening Cyclone Vayu, which is expected to slam into the state early Thursday, even as plans are afoot to shift people in the coastal belt to safer places.

The Gujarat administration is on high alert to deal with the cyclone, which is likely to hit the state coast near Veraval, officials said.

Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani on Tuesday said people living in the coastal belt would be shifted to safer places.
