Sheila Dikshits mortal remains have reached Congress headquarters from where the three-time Delhi chief minister will be taken on her final journey for a state funeral at Nigambodh Ghat at 3pm, a day after she passed away following cardiac arrest.

Dikshit, who gave the national capital its modern look, breathed her last at 3:55 pm at Fortis Escorts Heart Institute on Saturday.

Chants of "Sheila Dikshit Amar Rahe! Sheila Dikshit Zindabad!" follow the late Congress leader's funeral procession. The three-time Delhi chief minister will be given a state funeral and a two-day period of mourning will be observed, the Delhi government said.

The senior leader was preparing for the Delhi assembly polls scheduled for early next year, but now the Congress is concerned about appointing leadership for the election that can match Dikshit's appeal.

"None in the current crop of leaders match up to the popularity and appeal of Dikshit. The three working presidents Haroon Yusuf, Devender Yadav and Rakesh Lilothia are relatively junior to other senior leaders like JP Agarwal, AK Walia and Subhash Chopra," a party leader said.
