The Missing Network
January 29, 2019 17:27
Times of India readers in Mumbai woke up to a full-page advertisement from the Network 18 group announcing it as 'India's No. 1 News Network'. The ad had a bar graph illustrating its position as compared to 12 other news networks.
The ad in the TOI said the News18 network had 11.8% viewership with the Zee network a close second at 10.1%. At the bottom of the heap of the 13 networks came Republic TV with a viewership of just 0.1%.
The percentiles were credited to Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC), a viewership monitoring agency.
Nothing wrong with it, except for a trifling detail: A missing network. In the list of the top 13 news networks, conspicuous by its absence, was the Times Network, the news channels owned and operated by the ToI group.
A quick compare with Tuesday's Hindustan Times, and there it was at #13 -- the Times Network.
At last but one slot, just ahead of Republic TV, with a market share of 0.2%.
Different papers, different ads...
As the Kamasutra tells us, positions are everything, we suppose.
