18 Indian sailors abducted by Nigerian pirates

18 Indian sailors have been abducted by pirates while their vessel, the Hong Kong-flagged crude tanker Nave Constellation was passing through Nigeria on December 3.

According to initial reports, the armed pirates boarded the ship when it was to the south of the coast of Bonny, and abducted 19 sailors (one of them is a Turkish national).

The Nigerian navy, which soon arrived at the spot, escorted the ship to safety, reports stated.

A spokesperson for the owner of the crude tanker, Navios Maritime Acquisition, has been quoted as saying that 'all the necessary action is being taken to secure the sailors' release.'
