Congress is expected to shortly announce the name of its candidate from South Delhi - the boxer Vijender Singh.

The party had earlier announced the names of six candidates from Delhi, including its state unit chief Sheila Dixit who will be contesting from North-East Delhi.

Dikshit will take on Bharatiya Janata Party's sitting MP Manoj Tiwari and Aam Aadmi Party's Dilip Pandey.

Interestingly, senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal has not been named from the Chandni Chowk seat from which he has been fighting since 2004. After two terms, Sibal had lost to Union minister Harsh Vardhan in 2014.

The Congress list drew the curtains on the possibility of an alliance with the Aam Admi Party in Delhi.
