Actor-turned-politician Rajinikanth on Friday announced he will fight the next assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, saying he doesnt want to disappoint his followers.

The actor, who joined politics in 2017, had stayed away from the ongoing general elections, leading to questions about his political future at a time when fellow actor Kamal Haasans Makkal Needhi Maiam fielded candidates for the 18 assembly bypolls in Tamil Nadu.

Whenever the state assembly elections happen, I'm ready to face them. I dont want to disappoint my followers; no change in my stand, the actor-politician said.

He, however, ducked a question on whether Narendra Modi will return as PM, saying, We will get to know on May 23.

Rajinikanth is yet to formally announce his political party, with his fan club Rajini Makkal Mandram acting as a pre-cursor to the party. The club has already applied for a trademark for a television channel, a staple for major political parties in Tamil Nadu.
