The Election Commission has ordered re-polling in 73 polling stations in Kairana in Uttar Pradesh and 49 polling stations in Bhandara Gondia in Maharashtra after the failure of paper trail machines in yesterday's by-elections.

The re-polling will take place tomorrow.

"Re-polling will take place at 73 booths in Kairana. A brawl took place at one spot yesterday and police had taken action. We will ensure that any untoward incident doesn't take place during re-polling tomorrow," Praveen Kumar, Deputy Inspector General of Police Law and Order said.

In BhandaraGondiya Lok Sabha seat, polling was disrupted due to faulty EVMs.

The EC has also ordered the transfer of District Collector Abhimanyu Kale and Kadambari Balkawade will replace him.

Over 11 per cent of the 10,300 VVPAT, or Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail, machines across 10 states had developed faults and had to be replaced yesterday.   -- ANI, PTI
