PM Narendra Modi offers a 'chadar' at Sant Kabir's mazar in Maghar, UP, and lays the foundation of an academy in his name. Excerpts from his speech, which began with an eulogy to the syncretic poet-saint Kabir, but quickly moved on to a robust takedown of the Opposition.

"Woh (Kabir) dhool se uthey theyy lekin maathe ka chandan ban gaye. Woh vyakti se abhivyakti aur isse aage badhkar shabd se brahmshabd ho gaye. Wo vichaar bankar aaye aur vyavhaar bankar amar huye.

"There are some parties which do not want peace and development but unrest. They think if there will be unrest, they will benefit politically. Such people are cut off from their roots. They don't know the nature of this nation of Sant Kabir, Mahatma Gandhi & Baba Ambedkar.

"Two days ago, there was the 43rd anniversary of the Emergency. It is the greed for power that those who imposed and those who opposed Emergency have come together today. They don't see the welfare of society but only the welfare of themselves and their families. Those who imposed Emergency and those against it are together now.

"Ambedkar advocated for equality in society but unfortunately there are parties that are using his ideals for political gains.  People who claim to follow Kabir are more worried about big bungalows."
