The Maratha Kranti Morcha, which is spearheading the agitation seeking reservations in jobs and education has called for a Mumbai bandh today.

Protests are expected to be seen at Thane and Navi Mumbai and this is what it looks this morning:

Thane: Teen Haath Naka, the busy junction on the Eastern Express highway, is seeing protests. Protestors with flags were seen raising slogans bang in the middle of the junction, attempting to block traffic. However, there are no reports of stone throwing at Thane and traffic, while being inordinately heavy, is running smoothly.  A Thane Municipal Transport bus was vandalised in the Wagle Estate area of Thane. Workers of the Maratha Kranti Morcha also forcibly shut shops on Thane's Gokhale road.

Maratha Kranti Morcha organisers said they were not blocking any road. "We are carrying out a peaceful protest. We have told our workers that there should be no inconvenience to the police or govt due to our protest. We are asking people to shut down their shops."

Navi Mumbai: Buses have been pelted with stones and the Airoli-Vashi bus has been stopped. Protesters were seen pelting stones on two BEST buses near Navi Mumbai's Ghansoli area this morning.

Local train services are running normally.

A constable died and nine other policemen were injured in stone-pelting incidents in Maharashtra on Tuesday, 24 July, as a state-wide protest called by outfits seeking reservation for the Maratha community turned violent with agitators clashing with the police and torching vehicles amid suicide attempts by two protesters.
