11-year-old girl raped for months in Chennai, 17 arrested

An 11-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by several men over a period of time at various places inside her apartment complex in Chennai.
The police have arrested 17 people, including the building's security guard.
The matter came to light after the victim, a class seven student had narrated the sequence of incidents to her elder sister, who later brought this to the notice of their parents, following which a complaint was lodged on Sunday, a senior police officer told PTI.
The girl was allegedly sedated and given spiked soft drinks.
The police say she was also blackmailed.
Those arrested include the liftman and water supplier.
According to media reports, the girl's father was away at work through most of the day while her mother, a homemaker, did not think anything was amiss when the girl came home late from school.
She assumed that her daughter was playing with friends in the complex.
The girl's parents took her to Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital for treatment. After examining and speaking to the girl, doctors at the hospital found that several men had raped her.
