DMK chief M Karunanidhi's condition is deteriorating and he is now believed to be critically ill.

A health bulletin from Kauvery Hospital in Chennai where he has been admitted for over a week after his blood pressure fell due to complexities developed after the urinary tract infection.

On Saturday, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu met with DMK leaders MK Stalin and Kanimozhi at Kauvery hospital, while on Sunday President Ram Nath KOvind paid a visit.

Ever since he was admitted a week ago, the hospital has said that Karunanidhi will require an extended stay in hospital due to the  the "decline" in his general health though his vital parameters had normalised.

Doctors said the former Tamil Nadu chief minister is being treated for a urinary tract infection and other geriatric complaints. A team of doctors from Kauvery Hospital is attending to him round the clock.

Karunanidhi has been unwell for some time now with age-related health problems and has largely been confined to his home since late 2016. His tracheotomy tube was replaced two weeks ago.
