Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh today called on Shankaracharya Rajrajeshwar, considered close to the RSS and the BJP, at his ashram in Haridwar but said he did not believe in the ideology of the twin outfits which is meant to divide the country's polity along religious lines.

The former Madhya Pradesh chief minister said he is going to start Narmada Yatra to create awareness about those displaced by it and he had come to the Shankaracharya to seek his blessings before embarking upon his journey.

"There is nothing wrong in meeting Dharmagurus. I was a Hindu, I am a Hindu and I will remain a Hindu.

"But I don't believe in the BJP or Sangh ideologies which seek to divide the country's polity along religious lines," he said.

Known for making controversial statements from which his party is forced to distance itself from time to time, Digvijay said his demand for a CBI inquiry into Ramdev's guru swami Shankardev's disappearance had fallen on deaf ears.

He was replying to a question regarding disappearance of a prominent sant of an Akhara in Haridwar swami Mohan Das recently.
