Union Environment Minister Harsh Vardhan on Monday faced flak on Twitter for backing the Supreme Court decision to ban sale of firecrackers during Diwali in the Delhi-NCR region.

"Welcome decision by the SC on ban of firecrakers sales in NCR. Comes as a huge support for my #GreenDiwali initiative for our environment," Harsh Vardhan had tweeted after the apex court's decision.

However, his comments didn't go down well with many attacking him on Twitter.

Later, the minister deleted the tweet.

Here are some tweets which forced the minister to delete the tweet.

If your focus was on #GreenDelhi, not #GreenDiwali, you'd find that firecrackers are least of the problem. Banning Diwali won't fix Delhi

Stop embarrassing yourself Mr. Harshvardhan. Your incessant campaign is sickening https://

If he stands in my constituency, I'll vote against him. My respect & desire for Modi-ji as PM notwithstanding
