Police today seized swords, knives and iron rods near the Bharatiya Janata Party district committee office in Kannur.

The weapons were found by corporation workers from a compound near the BJP office.

Police said a case has been registered.

BJP district president P Satyaprakash termed the seizure a 'drama' by the police.

Some pockets in Kannur had witnessed violence in the past, with ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist alleging that BJP/Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh workers were attacking its activists.

On Monday, a hartal was observed in Panur and Kadambur in Kannur by the CPI-M and opposition Congress to protest against attacks on their workers, allegedly by BJP and RSS activists.

As many as 14 persons, including four police personnel, were injured in the attack on a procession taken out by CPI-M activists at Kaivellikal.

The incidents came days after the BJP had launched the 'Janaraksha Yatra' from Kannur to highlight the 'Red and Jihadi terrorism' in the state.  -- PTI
