AIADMK MLAs' disqualification case adjourned to Nov 2

The Madras high court today adjourned the hearing on individual cases filed by 18 disqualified All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam MLAs to November 2.

Justice K Ravichandrabaabu deferred the hearing after Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami's lawyers sought time to file replies to the MLAs' additional affidavits and rejoinders.

Concurring with him, the judge told senior counsel Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for the disqualified MLAs, that it would be appropriate to hear the case only after all written pleadings were placed before the court.

Tamil Nadu assembly Speaker Dhanapal had last month disqualified the 18 MLAs for defying the party. It meant that Chief Minister Palaniswami or EPS would find it easier to win a trust vote if he had to prove majority in the 234-member assembly, as the votes required to reach the halfway mark would come down.
