A by-election will be held in Chennai's Dr Radhakrishnan (RK) Nagar, which was J Jayalalithaa's former Assembly constituency, on December 21, the Election Commission has announced today.

Bypolls will also be held in Sabang in West Bengal, Sikandra in Uttar Pradesh, and Likabali and Pakke Kasang in Arunanchal Pradesh on the same day.

The counting of votes will be take place on December 24.

A bypoll had in fact been scheduled for the RK Nagar constituency on April 12, but it was cancelled after Income Tax raids uncovered evidence of massive corruption and bribery.

The Election Commission had also frozen the 'two leaves' symbol of the AIADMK in March ahead of the polls after infighting between the O Panneerselvam and E Palaniswamy (then led by VK Sasikala) camps.
