Assams Kaziranga National Park -- a World Heritage Site -- on Saturday night lost a rhino and her calf after poachers used an AK-series weapon to gun down the animals. This was the second incident of poaching in about 48 hours, leading to three rhino deaths in the Park.

A park official said the rhino and her calf were killed around 11:30 pm on Saturday in an area under the jurisdiction of the Tunikati anti-poaching camp of the Burrapahar range of the National Park. But, even as guards on duty reached the spot, the poachers had already chopped off the adult rhinos horn and disappeared.
