Hindi writer Krishna Sobti wins Jnanpith Award

Hindi writer Krishna Sobti has been awarded the 53rd Jnanpith Award for the 2017 for her pathbreaking contribution in Indian literature in a meeting of the Jnanpith Selection Board today. Sobti (92) is also a Sahitya Akademi Award-winning writer for her book, Zindaginama, set in rural Punjab. The Jnanpith Award is an Indian literary award presented annually by the Bharatiya Jnanpith organisation to an author for their "outstanding contribution towards literature".
