JUST IN: Curfew lifted for women and children in Mandsaur from 4 pm to 6 pm. Round-the-clock curfew was imposed in Mandsaur town in Madhya Pradesh after five farmers were killed and over a dozen injured in police firing. The farmers were protesting in Mandsaur district of MP since Monday. Curfew was also clamped in Pipliamandi and internet has been snapped.

CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan has ordered a judicial inquiry and said that anti-social elements, not farmers, were involved in the violence. However, his home minister Bhupendra Singh today admitted that the farmers had been killed by the police. The government has announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the kin of the dead and Rs 1 lakh to those injured.

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi and other senior party leaders were arrested by the police when they tried to make their way to Mandsaur, ground zero of the protests.
