The Nitish Kumar link to the Finance Commission

Nand Kishore Singh may head the Finance Commission, say sources. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in talks with with Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley about the constitution of the 15th Finance Commission. Insiders say that by early August there will be a notification. Apart from being an IAS officer, Singh (76) is also known as a politician and economist.

Other names doing the rounds are Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi and former Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das. The final decision will be taken by the Prime Minister, which is expected to be a political one, since NK Singh is considered to be close to Bihar CM Nitish Kumar.
