The cordial relationship between Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Governor Ram Nath Kovind and their approach were the "role model", not once did Nitish fight with Ram Nath Kovind in the years they have served Bihar.

These words from President Pranab Mukherjee come against the backdrop of  West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's spat with Governor Kesri Nath Tripathi, Pondicherry Chief Minister V Narayanaswamy's fight with Governor Kiran Bedi, and Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy's out-of-turn remarks.

Most of the gubernatorial appointments by the Narendra Modi government have an RSS element to them. One study points to there being 14 governors who are hardcore RSS followers, like Padmanabha Acharya in Arunachal Pradesh, Kalyan Singh in Rajasthan, and Ram Naik in Uttar Pradesh.

Outgoing President Pranab Mukherjee is clearly concerned about the differences and squabbles among constitutional appointees, and considers it to be not a good sign for the democratic process.

Hopefully, someone is paying attention.
