West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi has hit back at the state's Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her remarks saying that he was behaving like a 'BJP block president'.

In a statement, Tripathi said, "Governor cannot remain a mute spectator of the affairs in the state. There was nothing in the talks for which CM may have felt threatened, humiliated. Asked CM to ensure peace, law and order by all means.Surprised at attitude & language used by CM."

Earlier, Banerjee alleged that the governor had threatened her. "He threatened me...he insulted me on Tuesday. He cannot do it. He is a nominated person. I have told him you cannot talk to me like this. I am an elected person," an angry Banerjee said.

Banerjee, who is known for her impulsive behaviour, also slammed Tripathi, saying that he was behaving like a "BJP block president".
