Why PMO is cold towards Thambidurai

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not too happy with Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker M Thambidurai, say sources, and there's a reason behind it.

The PMO, say sources, has been receiving inputs that the senior AIADMK leader has been making not too flattering remarks about the PM, which have not gone down well.

The sources said things escalated on Thursday when, on realising that he was not on the PMO's list of leaders to accompany Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam to meet Prime Minister Modi, Thambidurai shouted in Tamil, 'Who is he to refuse me time?' -- using the Tamil third party singular reference avan (akin to 'tu' in Hindi).

Even during the Lok Sabha debate on GST, Thambidurai made it a point to criticise the legislation, especially when the PM was in the House, and ruling party members point out that the task could have been assigned to a junior member.

No wonder, they say, the PM is not too keen on meeting Thambidurai.
