As President Trump begins his first day as the 45th President of the United States, he and the vice president along with their invited guests will attend a luncheon put on by the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies at Statuary Hall in the US Capitol.

The JCCIC has held the luncheon for newly sworn in Presidents and Vice Presidents since 1897, however, the current version of the lunch began in 1953 with President Eisenhower's inauguration. According to the Inaugural Senate webpage, Eisenhower and his wife dined on creamed chicken, baked ham, and potato puffs in the Old Senate Chamber.

Following the luncheon, US President Trump and Vice President Pence will make their way down Pennsylvania avenue for the Inaugural Parade. A procession of bands, military regiments, floats and citizen groups will be led by Trump and his vice president as they make their way back to the White House. That tradition began in 1789 following George Washington taking the oath of office in New York City.
