ED issues summons to Zakir Naik
January 20, 2017  18:31
The ED has issued summons to Zakir Naik as part of its probe against the controversial preacher and his Islamic Research Foundation under anti-money laundering laws.

Officials said today the agency has issued the summons to Naik under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act and has asked him to appear by this month-end.

The agency wants to record the statement of Naik, who is abroad, and hence the summons were issued, they said. Separate summons have been issued against his organisation.

The Enforcement Directorate had registered a criminal case against Naik and IRF last month after taking cognisance of a complaint booked by the NIA under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act against them.
