We didn't, and we were surprised to discover a letter from a college in the area in Karnataka that informed students and their parents about 'an unprecedented natural situation that has developed in the region and its subsequent impact on the academic scheduling....'

'As we all are aware,' the letter stated, 'Udupi and its environs is facing a drought-like situation this year, due to the severe deficiency in the rainfall through the season. This has resulted in an critical situation with respect to availability of fresh water in the region currently itself, which is bound to aggravate in the coming summer season.'

'The summer is also expected to be much hotter this year. This will affect all the residents in general and the hospitals & health services in particular.'

'Hence, the local authorities and the university have advised all colleges to take necessary steps for ensuring that the campuses and academic schedules make all the stakeholders safe from any harmful conditions.'

'With reference to the impending water crisis, the academic calendar for the ensuing semester has been reworked....'

'As the water crisis is feared to become a critical feature in the future too, the academic calendar for the next academic year 2017-2018 is being formulated accordingly.'
