Security has been beefed up in the city with intensified patrolling and checking of places of accommodation to prevent anti-social elements from creating any law and order issues, police said today.

The measures come at a time when political uncertainty has gripped the state following Chief Minister O Panneerselvam's revolt against AIADMK chief V K Sasikala.

"The officers of Chennai Police have been instructed to conduct round-the-clock checks of lodges, mansions, service apartments and kalyana mandapams (marriage halls) to prevent anti-socials and rowdy elements from taking shelter with the intention to create law and order issues," a police release said.

Round-the clock surveillance and intensive vehicle checks have been put in place to "prevent the movement and influx of anti-socials," it said.

Police Commissioner S George has instructed all the senior police officers to actively supervise the execution of the preventive measures, the release added.
