Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam on Tuesday said that he was at Jayalalithaa's memorial to pay tribute to her and the people of TN need to be told some truths.

"When Amma was in the hospital, I was told we have the responsibility to save the party and government," OPS said.

"When she was alive, Jayalalithaa called me and said to pick someone whom the people will accept," he said.

OPS said," She (Jaya) said we have to safeguard the party chief's and the CM's post. She first said that you become CM and Madhusudhan should be the general secretary, I refused."

Panneerselvam said that he accepted the CM post only after they told him that if he doesn't accept, it will bring disrepute to the party.

"A couple of days after I became CM, it was said that Sasikala be made general secretary. I consulted other ministers, they agreed," OPS said about party's decision to elevate Sasikala as party chief.
