Amid accommodation shortage for MPs, 72 new flats would be constructed for the parliamentarians in the national capital's Lutyens' Zone.

Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan stressed the need for more residential facilities for Members of Parliament while speaking at a foundation stone laying function of three towers of total 72 flats for MPs in New Delhi at BD Marg.

"On one side there is need for more accommodation for sitting MPs, but at the same time we need to consider about former MPs if they travel to Delhi or need some accommodation for some time. So more space is required," Mahajan said.

The Speaker also suggested naming of these upcoming three towers after holy rivers Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati.
