Father-in-law among 6 to get noose for TN Dalit youth's killing

The Principal District and Sessions court on Tuesday handed the death sentence to the six persons including the father-in-law of the victim Shankar, a dalit youth, whose murder is believed to be a honour killing.
The victim's mother-in-law has been acquitted.
Of the 11 accused, six received capital punishment, one person was awarded a life sentence, one person got a five year sentence and three were acquitted.
Shankar and his wife Kausalya were brutally attacked by three persons in full public view near a bus stand in Udumalpet on March 13, 2016 allegedly at the behest of her father, a upper caste Hindu who was opposed to their inter-caste marriage. Read the report here.
