The National Investigations Agency Special Court allows Lt Col Shrikant Purohit to make a call to his wife Aparna. Speaking to ANI outside  the Special NIA Court, the army officer said, "I'm very happy. Now, I want to go back to my two families -- first is my service, second is my wife, sons and dogs.

The army officer, accused in the Malegaon blasts case, is expected to walk out today from Mumbai's Taloja jail, where he has spent nearly nine years. The officer, against whom charges are yet to be framed, got bail on Monday. The Supreme Court, which was hearing the case, said, "When personal liberty is involved there must be minimum interference by court".

Pointing out that there were "variations" in the chargesheets filed by the Maharashtra Anti-Terror Squad and the National Investigation Agency, which later took over the case, the court reasoned that the officer had already spent a long time in jail. The trial is likely to take a long time, the court added.

The Supreme Court on Monday granted bail to Lt Col Shrikant Prasad Purohit, who has been languishing in jail for almost nine years for his alleged role in 2008 Malegaon blast case, observing there were contradictions in the chargesheets filed by different investigating agencies.

The top court also said it cannot deny the relief to him merely because sentiments of community was against him.
